The Power of LOVE

by JOHNNY TAN
Happy February, Everyone! Surprisingly, no matter how busy we are this month, on the 14th, we will be reminded of the word“ L. O. V. E.”
My first encounter with this expressive“ words,” as mentioned above, was when I listened to the lyrics of one of my favorite Foxtrot songs, L. O. V. E., composed by Bert Kaempfert, written by Milt Gabler, and recorded by Nat King Cole.
“ L is for the way you look at me, O is for the only one I see, V is very, very extraordinary, E is even more than anyone that you adore can … Love is all that I can give to you; Love is more than a game for two …”
Last month, while I was playing this song during one of my“ Body In Rhythm Motion Hour” presentations for a memory care community, I saw a couple: a man sitting with a woman in a wheelchair, having a wonderful time connecting with each other. Later, as I was leaving, I ran into the gentleman in the facility ' s lobby, and we ended up talking. He praised me and was delighted to learn that I am there every other week to share my“ energized fun” presentation with the residents.
He, in his sixties, was there, spending quality time with his wife, who had developed acute memory issues over the years. He was extremely appreciative that my entertaining session helped them reconnect, even for a moment, rekindling the love they shared and validating what I saw when I looked at them, smiling and kissing each other as the song played.
As I left the facility, our conversation reminded me of an article I read years ago about a company’ s chairman and CEO who left his position to be with his wife, who no longer recognized him.
